Sanusi Umar MD, Fellow of The American Academy of Dermatology and diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology is an Associate faculty at the David Geffen UCLA Dermatology Division and The Director of Cosmetic Dermatology at Harbor UCLA. With several groundbreaking hair surgery publications in peer reviewed Journals, Dr Umar holds several patents on innovative technologies that have enhanced the field of hair transplantation. He is a pioneer in the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method of hair transplantation with major contributions to the development of body hair transplants (BHT).
He recently invented a novel non-rotary FUE tool (Dr.UPunch Curl) specifically for enhanced success in the extraction of all Afro-textured hair, regardless of tightness of hair curl or scalp skin thickness. Together with the rotary punch based Dr.Punch Rotor for scalp FUE and BHT, Dr Umar has developed a system called the Dr.UGraft Revolution with which a successful FUE can be performed on all demographics, irrespective of scalp or hair types. These techniques have given Dr Umar the expertise in successfully and consistently restoring and repairing patients who are typically considered impossible by conventional hair transplant standards — including cases of severe baldness, donor depleted hair transplant repair cases and Afro-textured hair with the curliest hair or unfavorable dermal characteristics.
